Factory destroyed in large blaze near Coventry Airport

A HUGE smoke cloud could be seen in the sky above Warwick district yesterday evening (Wednesday) as firefighters tackled a blaze which destroyed a factory near Baginton.

About 80 firefighters were called to the fire at Ney Ltd in Siskin Drive near Coventry Airport, which started at about 5pm.

Nobody was injured in the incident at the woodwork engineering factory from which 12 people were safely evacuated.

Witnesses took photos of the smoke and sent them to The Courier via Twitter.

Traffic was diverted away from the area around the site and an exclusion zone was set up as a precautionary measure.

People living nearby were advised to keep doors and windows closed.

Crews stayed at the scene overnight and the fire is now under control.

The cause of the blaze is not yet known

The airport has continued to operate as normal.
