Leamington recommended as England’s ‘bowls capital’

ROYAL Leamington Spa Bowling Club in Victoria Park will be recommended as the venue for both the Women’s and Men’s National Bowls Championships from 2014.

Bowls England has announced that the recommendation will be voted on by the 35 counties forming Bowls England at the company meeting on Saturday November 24.

This decision was reached following the submission of a detailed feasibility study initially requested by the Bowls England Council.

The club currently hosts the women’s event while the men’s event tales place in Worthing where Bowls England currently has its headquarters.

Should the counties vote in Leamington’s favour then the headquarters will also be relocated to the club.

Warwick District Council has put £10,000 into an impact report in connection with the feasibility study.

Councillors are excited about the prospect of Leamington becoming “the centre for bowls in the country”.
