Less complaints against police according to report
COMPLAINTS against Warwickshire Police are on the decrease according to a report given to a meeting of police authority members today (Wednesday)
The report, from the Professional Standards Committee of Warwickshire Police Authority, shows there was a 32 per cent reduction in the number of complaint cases in the year 2011/12 compared to the previous 12 months.
In addition there have only been 38 new cases - comprising 67 allegations - between April and June this year compared with 63 cases in the same quarter last year.
Of these 67 allegations 21 were for neglect of duty, ten for incivility and 21 for assault.
Speaking on behalf of the Professional Standards Department at Warwickshire Police, Det Chief Insp Nick Tomkinson said: “Warwickshire Police is pleased to see that the average number of days to finalise local investigations has been reduced by 44 compared to the same period last year. This is an area we have really been focussing on.
“Warwickshire remains one of the top forces for recording complaint cases within ten days, despite using this period to effect service recovery wherever possible.
“We continue to display a mature approach to upholding complaints even where there is not a misconduct finding. We uphold on average nine per cent more allegations than the national average. Our focus is on learning the lessons and we will continue to reduce the amount of days it takes to finalise all of our investigations.”
