Please clear up after your dog

May I, through your letters column, urge people to please clear up after their dogs.

I read with interest in your paper a few weeks back about one woman’s struggle with mountains of dog mess left on the pavements near her house.

Well I have noticed an increase of it on footpaths, especially round the new Greenway cycle route through Kenilworth Common and the footpath that runs alongside Finham Brook, from School Lane to Abbey Fields. I do appreciate that most dog owners do clear up after their pets and it is only a minority that don’t. Yet it is that minority that is the problem.

Signs are up proclaiming hefty fines for not clearing up after your dog yet I cannot see how it can be enforced. I’ve never seen a dog warden out and about.

So it seems guilt brought on by public disapproval is the only way to make these irresponsible owners pick it up. So far it doesn’t appear to be working. - Name and address supplied.
