Train lines seem to be full to capacity already
I recently caught a midmorning, midweek train from Tile Hill to Birmingham. During the few minutes’ wait on the platform the passengers saw a Virgin express pass through followed by a goods train. Our journey was uneventful except that, as so often, we had to wait outside New Street station for another train to depart before our train could enter a platform.
Leaving aside the inefficiency of three train operating companies plus Network Rail using the same track, there is surely not the capacity to meet future demand for rail travel in the West Midlands and beyond?
The evidence points to a completely new line for high speed trains to link the North, Midlands and South. HS2 would form a part of this line. - Nick Hoten, Rouncil Lane, Kenilworth.
