A man and a woman had a lucky escape when the car they were travelling in left the M40 early on Saturday and crashed into trees.
Their car was very badly damaged in the crash, which took place on the southbound carriageway between junctions 12 and 11 at around 1.50am.
The passenger, a woman believed to be in her mid 30s, suffered neck, back and chest injuries after the car left the road, travelled down an embankment and hit a number of trees.
An ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene and gave her emergency treatment before taking her to University Hospital, Coventry.
The man driving the car suffered a minor shoulder injury and was treated at the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Considering the substantial damage to the vehicle, the occupants were fortunate not to have suffered more serious or even fatal injuries.”
