Olympic hotel security guard charged with theft
A SECURITY guard working for the G4s firm at an Olympic Games site near Kenilworth has been charged with stealing a colleague’s mobile phone.
The 20-year-old, from Smethwick in the West Midlands, was providing security for Olympic footballers at the Chesford Grange Hotel but has now been suspended by G4S.
He was released on police bail and will appear before magistrates in Leamington on Wednesday August 8.
G4S has confirmed the member of staff was arrested and charged and that the phone has been recovered and the member of staff suspended.
Last week, Warwickshire Police Federation secretary Stuart Hinton said the force was being stretched to its limit of man power due to G4S’s failiure to provide enough staff for the hotel and other Olympic venues including Warwick University and the City of Coventry Arena.
The firm has come under criticism after it announced it would not have enough trained staff to cover the Olympic Games.
It had been contracted to provide 10,000 personnel but 3.500 troops are to be brought in for the London events, which start on Friday.
