‘Remarkable’ man will be missed

TRIBUTES have been paid to a respected Kenilworth businessmen who died last week.

Brian Woods-Scawen, who was awarded a CBE in 2008 for services to business and the community, passed away at his home in the town on Friday afternoon after battling a brain tumour.

The 65-year-old, who was the former chairman of the Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire Partnership and a former executive chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers in the Midlands, has been described as “one of a kind” by friends and colleagues, who branded the devoted family man “remarkable”.

Friend Steve Stewart said: “Brian was an amazing man and the world’s best networker.

“Everywhere you went people would stop him to talk.”

Dr Woods-Scawen, a former chartered accountant, was also well-known for leading the Peugeot Partnership as well as being the chairman of the West Bromwich Building Society, an adviser to the Prime Minister on governance in public life, a non-executive member on the board of the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and of the government office for the West Midlands. Louise Bennett, chief executive of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “Our thoughts are with Brian’s family at this sad time. Brian made a fantastic contribution to Coventry, Warwickshire and the wider West Midlands.”

Dr Woods-Scawen, who leaves behind his wife Jane, two children and three grandchildren, was also Warwick University’s honorary treasurer and former research student.
