Shropshire Lad a sellout at beer festival

Around 300 people enjoyed 14 different ales and live music at Kineton Sports and Social Club's second beer festival.

The event, on Friday and Saturday, featured beers from Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire and South Wales.

Music was provided by Stratford Girls' Jazz Band and Leamington band Bacchus and revellers tucked into roast pork and stuffing baps among other refreshments on offer.

A team of eight from the club committee have spent the past five months preparing for the weekend, but club secretary Mel Codd felt it was worth the effort.

He said: "It went really well - a big success.

"There is a lot of work that goes into it, and I would not necessarily say the profits we make are enormous, but holding a festival like this makes people more aware of what the club is all about and what facilities are available.

"Just being recognised for that and being associated with beer festivals means we are moving in the right direction.

"We sold a lot more beer than last year."

The first beer to sell out was Shropshire Lad from Wood Brewery, followed closely by Butty Bach from Wye Valley Brewery and Spring's First from Teme Valley Brewery.

Mr Codd added: "My favourite was the Butty Bach because it's got a nice taste - not too overpowering - and a good flavour.

"We'd like to thank everyone who attended for their support and hope they thoroughly enjoyed themselves."

Preparations for the club's next beer festival in October - to coincide with the Sealed Knot re-enactment of the Battle of Edgehill - are already underway. For details contact the club on 640901.
