Southam’s Clare has the catwalk in her viewfinder

A PHOTOGRAPHER from humble beginnings has set her sights on the glamorous world of fine art photography and haute couture fashion.

And with an award-winning portfolio of photos called Love Hurts, Clare Louise jets off to Paris next month to meet art buyers, agents, gallery owners and magazine editors.

But the 41-year-old mother of two teenage sons only went into photography by chance.

Clare, of Banbury Road, Southam, worked as an agency auxiliary nurse and decided to take a photography course at Warwickshire College to get her “studying head together” before starting a nursing degree course.

She said: “I got seven distinctions and two credits and I thought, I have to do this – photography is me.”

Clare started eight years ago doing weddings, beauty shots, portraits and fashion before turning her attention to contemporary work.

Her thought-provoking portfolio Love Hurts explores love and heartbreak and is matched with emotionally-charged captions, the artistic use of red and props.

She has been awarded the Fellowship qualification by the Master Photographers Association (MPA) for excellence in photographic technique and interpretation in the field of fine art photography and is the highest level in a series of three qualifications awarded to photographers by the MPA.

Clare said: “I want to produce images which emotionally connect the energy of the subject with the viewer, just as I feel it through the camera lens when I capture the shot, not dissimilar to how a painter can manifest feelings through their art.”

Clare has also garnered the MPA’s Best Fellowship Award 2012 and UK Portfolio Winner. She has given talks to the London Portrait Group and in December will talk to photographers in Singapore.

Clare hopes her success will inspire others, saying: “I come from a council house, did not have money and had to work at it.

“I was working five nights a week and one night a week at college. It’s hard work and determination that can get you by.”
