Video to raise awareness of hate crime in Warwickshire
A POLICE video has been released on YouTube to raise awareness of ‘hate’ crime around Warwickshire.
The county’s constabulary is currently running a REACH - Response and Engagement Against Crimes of Hate - initiative, through which people are encouraged to report incidents of hate crime, which is any type of crime committed where the perpetrator’s hostility or prejudice against an identifiable group of people, for example due to race, religion, disability or sexual orientation, is the reason for committing the crime.
Chief Inspector Mike Slemensek, the force’s equality, diversity and human rights manager, said: “Hate crime is still under-reported, but we take all reports seriously and want more people to tell us what is going on so that we can do something about it.
“Our aim is to ensure that victims and potential victims are aware of how they can report hate crime, and also that members of the public in general are equipped to understand that they can play a part in fighting this.
“We hope that the video will help us to get the information to a wider audience.”
