Vomiting bug closes Warwick Hospital to visitors
A VOMITING bug has broken out at Warwick Hospital, meaning no visitors are being allowed in.
The norovirus outbreak was initially affecting the Gay, Avon, Nicholas and Charlecote Wards, but has since spread around other parts of the hospital in Lakin Road.
Visiting has been temporarily banned in order to prevent further spread of the virus to both patients and visitors.
Exceptions will be made on compassionate grounds when the patient is seriously ill, although those wishing to visit must call the manager of the ward the patient is at to arrange their visit.
Norovirus is a seasonal viral infection which causes vomiting and diarrhoea. It is very infectious and often occurs in outbreaks in communities such as schools, institutions and families.
The virus spreads through contact, so anyone who has had or been in contact with someone who has had diarrhoea and vomiting within the last 48 hours should stay away from the hospital.
