WHAT started out as a college project for three Leamington music students has evolved into what could be the start of three exciting careers.

Warwickshire College music technology students Robert John Collins, Nathan Bansi and Richard Hughes have spent the past two years working on the idea of creating an album as part of their studies.

But the three young men enjoyed the project, which had originally involved the whole of their class, so much that they went ahead and made the album for real - and the friends are now preparing to launch it at their first live gig.

Robert, 20, said: “We have written all the music and recorded it ourselves in the college’s recording studio.

“As we all have jobs outside of college as well, it has been hard work, but worth it.

“We’ve called the album Against The Grain because it started off with the whole class and then whittled down to us three, who carried on despite everyone else dropping out.”

Calling their band Still Listening, Robert, Nathan and Richard, whose album cover has been created by another fellow student, say their music includes folk, pop, rock, acoustic and electronic sounds.

While Robert and Richard are both planning to start music technology degrees at Huddersfield University in September, Nathan will be going to Coventry University - but the three are hopeful they can stay together as a band and eventually open their own studio.

They will perform at the Black Swan in Rugby on Wednesday June 20 at 7.30pm, where they will also be selling their album for £5, with proceeds going to Myton Hospice.

The album is also available at Head and Seismic Records in Leamington and on iTunes.
