What’s in a name? Apple recognises Leamington as Royal Spa, but moves the town
Leamington now appears where Daventry should be, in Apple's new mapping application.
THOSE who revel in Leamington’s Royal Spa status will be delighted with a mapping blunder by computer giant Apple - which has renamed the town simply ‘Royal Spa’.
Grubby old Leamington, meanwhile, has been shipped out to Daventry, which no longer appears in its own right. Users who type Daventry into its search facility are taken to the correct location, but find the Northamptonshire market town has been renamed, while Stratford, famed worldwide as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, has simply disappeared.
The revisions to the UK’s geography occur in i0S6, the latest version of Apple’s operating system for its iPhones and iPads.
The new mapping application is the result of the American firm no longer using maps provided by internet firm Google.
