People with learning disabilities in south Warwickshire are being exposed to Indian culture and dance as part of a new Big Lottery-funded project.

Heart of England Mencap has been awarded £7,000 to support its Bhangra Extravaganza, running at the charity’s Pathway day service in Coten End, Warwick.

The free 12-week course - during which people are taught Indian bhangra dance and storytelling - will end in March with a performance by participants for family and friends.

As part of the project, run by In2Cultures, participants are also learning about Indian culture and religions, tasting Indian food and trying out costume-making and crafts.

Cath Errington, fundraising manager for Heart of England Mencap, said: “The Bhangra Extravaganza was an idea that came from our Pathway customers and the fact that we can make it happen is really fantastic.”
