A BUDDING young author who attends a Leamington school has been shortlisted for a national story writing competition.

Jessica Ellis’s tale, titled Harvey at the Animal Olympics, was one of 74,000 stories entered into the Chris Evans Breakfast Show 500 Words competition organised by BBC Radio 2.

The eight-year-old Kingsley School pupil’s entry has been chosen among the top 25 in her age group, which is being judged by celebrated children’s writers including Dame Jacqueline Wilson and David Walliams.

Jessica, from Warwick, has been invited to attend the Hay Festival in June for a live broadcast in which six winners will be announced.

Their stories will be performed by a well-known figure and published.

Jessica’s story, on which she worked tirelessly, is about a mouse from London who befriends an American frog during the Animal Olympics.
