Warwick District Council’s executive committee have agreed to a scheme put forward by Avon Valley Indoor Bowls Club to use land off Harbury Lane in Bishops Tachbrook for a new indoor bowls club and changing rooms.

Officers encouraged councillors to approve the plan, stating that a new club would add to the sports facilities offered in the district, making a contribution both to the local economy and to the health and well-being of its population, particularly the elderly, who are more likely to play indoor bowls.

It was also thought that building a new club there would help to deter illegal Gypsy and traveller encampments, which have cost the council £5,000 to deal with over the past five years.

The club is currently based at Jaguar Land Rover’s Gaydon site, but the lease there ends in 2020. The new lease at Harbury Lane would be for a long term basis on a peppercorn rent.
