Thieves broke into a container situated to the side and rear of the Castle Inn, in Edgehill, sometime overnight between the evening of Thursday 9 and Friday 10 January and stole items including two metal rifles and a flint lock rifle, a support spike, a pike and spear, a pikeman’s helmet, 2 brass Saxon axes and a metal breast plate.

The items were used to decorate the pub, which overlooks the battlefield of the first major battle of the English Civil War.
