Scarecrows will be popping up once again in Kenilworth’s gardens as Thorns Infant School’s scarecrow trail returns for its third year, this time with a royal twist.

The trail, organised by the school’s PTA, runs from Saturday June 11 to Sunday June 19.

The theme this year will be the Queen’s 90th birthday, meaning all the scarecrows on display will have a royal connection of some sort. The PTA has already made a Queen scarecrow for the trail.

Over 30 scarecrows will be popping up in the town, and maps of the trail will be sold in five different Kenilworth shops for £1: Brian Holt, Simply Fresh, Windy Arbour News, Leyes Lane Pharmacy and Kenilworth Books.

PTA member Claire Henley said: “We are hoping to attract as many families as possible to this event as it’s a fun, family day out exploring our community.

“It’s really grown over the last couple of years and the kids are really excited for it.”

People who follow the trail can try their hand at a quiz, where riddles on each scarecrow will give a clue to a letter. All 30 letters will spell out a phrase.

Anyone who guesses the phrase correctly will be entered into a prize draw and the winner will be picked from a hat.

There will also be a vote for the best scarecrow on the trail, with the top three also receiving prizes.

All the scarecrows can be seen in one place at the school’s summer fair on Saturday June 25, where all the prizes will be awarded.

Money raised from the trail will go towards Thorns Infant School’s PTA.
