Royal visit should come to Warwick ‘town’, say upset officials
Town clerk Derek Maudlin has written to the Prince of Wales’s private secretary to respectfully request that His Royal Highness spends a little longer in Warwick then his timetable seems to allow.
Prince Charles is to be entertained at Warwick Castle, watch a lesson in progress at Warwick School and see a play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

It was some time ago that Mr Maudlin, on behalf of members of the town council, originally wrote to Buckingham Palace to request a royal visit as part of the town’s 1,000th anniversarye celebrations.
Members of the district council set aside an extra sum of money to pay for extra security should any member of the royal family make a visit.
Requests to the palace were also sent by Warwick Castle and Warwick School, which is laying claim to being part of an educational tradition in the area reaching back to the tenth century.

After we broke the news last week, there were also messages on social media questioning why Prince Charles will miss out the main part of the town.
Last week a spokeswoman for Buckingham Palace said: “We anticipate the mayor will be invited to the castle to greet His Highness and he will try to see as many people as possible. We will be publishing more details nearer the time but there is only so much he can fit into one day.”
