A ‘silver screen’-themed float by Long Itchington’s Wednesday Club was selected as the best in the village’s carnival, which brought large crowds - despite the rain - out to participate in the parade and enjoy the entertainment on Monday.

Prizes were also awarded to the youth club, for its ‘Peace and War’ float, to the Brownies for their ‘Bake-off’ float, to the Scouts for their First World War War hospital-themed creation and several other groups.

And as well as the usual carnival attractions, there was a special release of 100 red balloons to mark the carnival’s 100th anniversary.

The carnival committee’s chairman James Briggs said: “Thank you to everyone who turned up and to the committee, without whom the event would not have been possible.”
