Southam headteacher ‘extremely proud’ at second outstanding Ofsted rating

The highest possible grading was awarded to the school in a report published just before the Easter holidays - three years after Ofsted inspectors rated it as ‘outstanding’ in February 2011.

Headteacher Ranjit Samra, who joined the school in 2009, a year after it was rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted, said: “I am extremely proud of Southam College gaining its second consecutive outstanding Ofsted grading.

“To maintain this level of performance under tougher Ofsted criteria is an exceptional performance.”

Inspectors, in their report, stated: “Students appreciate the high-quality teaching, personal support and guidance which they receive at the school. Relationships across the school are highly positive and make a significant contribution to the outstanding learning.

“Teaching is often inspirational. As a result, students have outstanding attitudes to learning and are highly motivated to achieve their very best because they enjoy lessons.”

Mr Samra said: “Credit needs to go to our supportive parents, talented staff and most of all to our fantastic students.

“They are absolute stars who never cease to amaze us with what they do on a daily basis. They have huge potential and are capable of achieving anything they choose to.

“It really is a privilege to be headteacher of Southam College.”

Lindsey Dennish, chairman of governors at the school, said: “This achievement is the result of all staff - teaching and non-teaching - maintaining a relentless drive for every student to achieve their very best and in doing so empowering all our leavers to achieve their chosen goal.”
