Visitors to the free event, which runs from 11am to 3.30pm, will be able to meet First World War re-enactors - including soldiers from the Birmingham Pals Living History Association, a group of dedicated military and social history enthusiasts which aims to educate the public about different aspects of the Great War.

There will also be themed displays - created by community groups from around the West Midlands - which will give people the chance to find out more about the stories of soldiers from places including Berkswell, Rugby and Sutton Coldfield.

The museum’s curatorial officer Stephanie Bennett said: “I am really looking forward to seeing the displays produced by the local history groups. It is so easy to forget, when you are focusing on your work and living in your own little world, that there is so much fascinating history out there waiting to be discovered.

“It will be a fun and entertaining day. The re-enactors are always great to meet - their knowledge about being a soldier in the First World War and their enthusiasm, passion and love of the topic is wonderful.”

The date of the event ties in with the 100th anniversary of the fateful land offensive by British troops in Gallipoli. The disastrous campaign, which began on August 9 1915, is more widely remembered in New Zealand and Australia, as it was the first area where their troops fought during the Great War.

The museum is at St Johns in Warwick. To find out more, call 412132 or visit heritage.warwickshire.gov.uk/museum-service/st-johns-house-museum
