Tributes paid to holidaymaker killed in Ibiza

Tributes have been paid to a Kenilworth husband tragically killed in a motorbike accident in Ibiza.

Philip Pickett and his wife Liz were holidaying in Ibiza when they were involved in the tragic accident on Tuesday June 24.

It is understood that the 52-year-old came off his bike after losing control on a road between the fishing bay of Porroig and San Jose. But that following the accident, a wing mirror on the motorcycle came off and sliced into his chest, killing him at the scene.

Liz, who was a passenger at the time, suffered a broken wrist in the crash.

Phil was a keen motorcyclist and instructor at Stratford on Avon Gliding Club where Liz sat as a committee member.

As well as being chief technical inspector, Phil’s was “instrumental” in keeping the aircraft in flying condition and carrying out much of the work required for annual inspections on the club fleet and private gliders.

John Dickinson, secretary at the Snitterfield club reported the tragic news to members and sent out deepest condolences to Phil’s wife and family.

“Phil was a well respected and popular instructor who for many years enabled our club to operate seven days a week during the summer by acting as our mid-week duty instructor,” he said.

“He will be missed on both a personal level and for his day to day contribution to our club.

“Tragic accidents are always difficult to handle, but this is especially difficult for Liz being injured herself and the accident happening abroad.

“The club will be offering practical support in any way possible.

“Our thoughts are with Liz at this very tragic time.”
