Two motorway crashes in south Warwickshire in one morning

A lorry driver has suffered life-threatening injuries in the second of two crashes on the motorway near Gaydon this morning.

The first crash involved an articulated lorry and two cars close to junction 12 on the M40 at about 4.25am.

The occupants of a Ford Focus are believed to have suffered minor injuries and one person who was travelling in a Suzuki Liana is believed to have suffered serious injuries. They were taken to hospital and the motorway was closed at junction 11 for some time.

The second crash - between two lorries - which occurred at around 5.45am, is thought to have happened in the tailback to the first collision. The driver of the lorry which went into the back of the other lorry suffered serious life threatening injuries, while the other driver suffered slight injuries.

The first driver had to be cut out of his vehicle and was taken by air ambulance to hospital at 7am.

The motorway was closed between junctions 11 and 12 until mid-morning.

Any witnesses to either collision are asked to call police on 415415.
