Warwick schoolboy is a wheel hero for charity

Fraser Eades, seven, took part in the Wheel Heroes event held by Cyclists Fighting Cancer starting from Stratford Racecourse on Sunday.

Cycling on his mountain bike, bought for him as a Christmas present, Fraser completed the 26-mile route and has raised more than £1,000 for Brain Tumour Research.

He said: “It was very tiring but I’m very proud to have done it.”

Fraser took on the challenge in memory of his cousin Scott Holden, 16, who died of an undetected brain tumour on Christmas Eve in 2011.

The two enjoyed family holidays together and Fraser’s fondest memory of Scott is of them playing football together in the park while in Scotland.

A keen player, Scott has had a football centre named after him at Pershore High School where he would have finished his A level studies this year.

An annual fundraising match, for which Fraser owns a commemorative T-shirt with Scott’s picture on it, is held in the town in his memory

Fraser’s mother Holly Hockey said: “Scott was an amazing young man, we are so very proud of all he achieved, he was truly the most kindhearted of people and he is missed greatly, especially by Fraser.”

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of UK children and adults yet receive less than one per cent of the national spend on cancer research.

Brain Tumour Research is the only national charity in the UK funding sustainable and continuous research into brain tumours.

Mrs Hockey said: “As you will agree 26 miles is a very long way for a seven-year-old to ride.

“Even the smallest of donations will mean the world to Fraser.”
