Warwickshire Police has issued safety advice for Pokémon Go gamers after the mobile craze was unleashed in the UK this week.

The force has issued warnings to players of the game which has caused a global frenzy as players try to catch characters planted virtually in locations across their towns.

The mobile app lets players roam their towns using their phone’s GPS signals and catch Pokemon characters to train and battle.

But questions over the safety of the game have been raised after a spike in reports of crimes connected with the game.

In America, four people were arrested after using the game to lure players to remote places and rob them at gunpoint - or less seriously of people falling over from not looking where they are going while they play.

As the craze hit the West Midlands, a spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “Please remember that your safety comes before catching that Drowzee or Squirtle.

“Let someone know where you’re going, be aware of your surroundings and follow all normal road safety advice.

“For grown ups playing, we hope it goes without saying but under no circumstances is it ok to catch Pokémon whilst you’re driving.”
