Woman cut from car after Birches Lane crash

A woman was cut from her car and taken to hospital after two cars collided in Birches Lane.

Fire crews from Kenilworth and Leamington were called out after two cars collided in the Kenilworth road just before 3pm on Tuesday.

A woman was trapped in her car for around 45 minutes before being cut free by fire crews in the rescue which lasted around half-an-hour.

The woman in her early-40s was taken for treatment by ambulance crews and understood to be suffering from a number of different injuries including a fractured femur and problems to her chest.

She is now being treated at the major trauma centre at the University Hospital Coventry.

The collision left both cars with front and back end damage, but nobody else was harmed in the incident.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found two cars that had been involved in a collision.

“The driver of one car, a woman reported to be in her early 40s, was trapped in her vehicle and was suffering from a number of different injuries.

“Once she had been cut free, ambulance staff immobilised her with a neck collar and spinal board and continued to treat her for a suspected fractured femur as well as back and chest injuries.

“The driver of the second car escaped injury.”
