Legion will mark occasion in town

The Royal British Legion will mark the 70th anniversary of victory in Europe (VE Day) over the weekend of May 8-10. Events will be taking place throughout the UK over this weekend which includes wreath laying at the Cenotaph and a parade through Whitehall in London on Saturday.

The Royal British Legion in Leamington will mark the occasion on Sunday May 10 with a service at the Cenotaph at noon followed by a tea party at the RNA Club, Adelaide Road, afterwards. The service which will be conducted by Reverend Christopher Wilson will include a wreath being laid, the Last Post and WW2 songs.

For the service, Euston Place will be closed off so people attending are requested to converge there and not on the footpath on the Parade.

Although victory in Europe was achieved in May, the war in Japan continued until August 1945 so for all VJ veterans we will be doing something similar over the weekend of August 14-16.
