Crisps were the first theft of the day for a group of youths who struck at Subway Sandwich Shop in Kenilworth on Tuesday, July 1.
At around 7.47am a group of youths entered the sandwich shop on Abbey End and one of the youths decided to approach the crisp display counter, select a bag and place it up his jumper.

Police said the youths then left, but the theft was captured on
the shop's CCTV system. Police viewed the footage and made a note of the description.

About 35 minutes later on the same day at 8.30am, police received a 999 call relating to a group of male youths who were acting suspiciously near to a house.

The caller suspected that one of the youths had just stolen a pedal cycle from an address in Rounds Hill Kenilworth.

The last known sighting of the alleged thief was Rouncil Lane, heading in the direction of police headquarters.

The team, along with a dog unit, carried an extensive area search of the surrounding area and located the alleged offender who was still in possession of the stolen bike. The bike thief also matched the description of the person who stole the packet of crisps and was arrested for both offences and taken to Leamington Spa Police Station.

According to police, he admitted both counts of theft and stated in his interview that he only stole the bike so that he could get to Leamington.

The youth will receive a final warning and will be spoken to and assessed by the Youth Offending Team. The owner has since been reunited with his bicycle.
