Calls to Warwick District Council to rid a wasp problem from a Kenilworth home have 'fallen on deaf ears' because of the time of year, according to one resident.
Mrs Eurwen Courts of Thickthorn Close in the town has been plagued by wasps causing a 'nuisance' in her loft but has been refused help by the council because of its seasonal policies on pest control.

She said: "My daughter went up to the loft and
the next minute I heard a scream and she came running down the ladder followed by lots of wasps. There was a nest up there. She doesn't like them at all. Naturally I contacted Warwick District Council to find out when they could come and get rid of the problem, but they said that they do not assist with this sort of thing after September 30. This was only October 1."

Mrs Eurwen then had to contact a pest control company to get rid of the nest.

She added: "I just couldn't believe the district council's response. The person I spoke to said 'sorry madam we can't deal with this sort of thing after September 30'. I explained the problem again but she repeated it, she was like a mantra, she just kept saying the same thing over and over again. I actually found it quite amusing in the end.

"I wondered if there was some sort of rule to this, such as you can't hunt grouse after October 12.

"I thought maybe there is something like this for wasps too."

Richard Brooker, spokesman for Warwick District Council, said: "We only offer a service through early spring and summer and it does close on September 30.

"As far as my colleagues were aware this is has always been the case and after this date residents would need to contact a private contractor."
