Thousands of pounds may have been stolen using bank and credit cards cloned at a garage in Warwick.
Readers contacted the Courier with their stories after the paper last week revealed how criminals appeared to have targeted the Birmingham Road garage.

Shrewley resident Gail Bridgwater, 44 said she had had her card cloned - and knew of ten others
in the village who had fallen victim to the crime since mid-April.

Money was withdrawn using Mrs Bridgwater’s card details from a cashpoint in Romania, but others in the village had money stolen using machines in Australia, Canada, Portugal and New Zealand. Both credit cards and bank cards were cloned in the crimes.

Mrs Bridgwater said thieves had attempted to take £88, but that one victim she knew of had £3,000 withdrawn in Australia.

She added: “This has affected more than just a couple of people. None of us pay by card there now.”

Peter Jackson, of Albert Street, Warwick had £44 withdrawn in his name in Romania, but his bank stopped criminals taking out £800. His daughter’s card was also cloned and £100 was stolen.

Mr Jackson’s card has been cancelled until a replacement can be issued but he believes banks should warn customers in areas where fraud is being committed.

He said: “I have no idea how the fraud took place as I have always been careful when using my card with pin, as I was aware of past reports regarding cameras or false machinery.

“I do wonder if the various banks co-ordinate on these matters or indeed can warn users in any given locale, the local press would be only too happy to oblige.”

Warwickshire Police have confirmed an investigation into credit card fraud is taking place, and that a member of staff at a garage in the Hatton area is helping police identify suspects.
