Warwick's carnival queen for 2008 has been crowned.
Kelly Crowther, 15, a pupil of Kenilworth School, will wear the crown at Warwick carnival on June 28, with Baylee Hammond, 13, Selina Curtis, 14, and Courtney Walker, 12, as her princesses.

The four girls will be at the head of the procession from Warwick Racecourse through the town to St Nicholas Park, where the carnival takes place.

Kelly, who one day hopes to be a policewoman, said: “I feel quite proud because I have grown up in the town.

“When I walk around the streets where the procession is going to run and I can think I am going to be queen of Warwick for a whole year.”

Preparations are continuing with the rest of the carnival, which is organised by Warwick Lions. Some 12 pubs have signed up to take part in the tug of war contest, for which the prize is a cask of beer.

Schools around the town have also begun entering teams for the five-a-side football tournament. Organiser Jon Dodd said he would like to see people from Leamington and Kenilworth at the event, which is held to raise money for good causes in Warwick and Lions charities around the world.
