While others in the area are complaining about fortnightly rubbish collections and hulking wheelie bins, people in one Warwick street are furious not to receive them.
Residents in Castle Close were bewildered when the lorry delivering green and black wheelie bins stopped short of their road.
When they contacted the company that will collect the rubbish they were told the close would continue to receive weekly c
ollections - and that they would be issued with free plastic sacks.
But many had been looking forward to green waste collections - and predict the new bags left each week will only blow away and act as litter.
Resident John Soldan does not believe the bags will be big enough.
He said: “I don’t understand why we’re not on the list.
“If some people don’t want the bins that is their prerogative but there is no reason why anybody down here could not handle them. It might be an alternative scheme but I do not regard it as an equivalent service. I see it as derisory.”
Unlike many flats and narrow streets Castle Close has gardens, driveways and garages with room for wheelie bins. Officials at Warwick District Council admitted they had made a mistake, but angered residents further when they said it might not be put right for up to three months.
Many called for the council to put the mistake right before April 1. Neighbour Peter Gemmell said: “If they are coming down Castle Lane there is no reason why they can’t continue down Castle Close as they have always done. We feel it is another example of the council not knowing the area. There were some people painting road markings who said they didn’t know Castle Close existed.”
Warwick District Council waste services manager Jackie Webb admitted the council had made a mistake - and confirmed it would be four to six weeks before the authority began putting this right.
But she insisted Castle Close residents’ dustbin and recycling service - which would continue as a weekly service - would be no worse than before.
She added: “This is the first time we have made such a major change to the refuse collection service since the horse and cart stopped. It would be a very brave person who said they could do it without making a mistake.”
