Our beloved 'Woollies' has truly gone
chewed up in the 'Credit Crunch'
Yet fond memories cling of sixpenny toys
and the goodies we used to munch
So it's farewell to our Aladdin's cave
the largest sweet shop in the world
Where 'Pick & Mix' was our delight
and those bright shapes
which round our mouths swirled

And we'll shed a nostalgic tear or two
for other treats now vanished from sight
Like warm visions of Sun Pat peanuts
our salted lips smarting with each bite

So the toppling giant has closed its doors
this Icon for nine decades
All lights switched off
the final curtain's come down
An American dream swiftly fades.
