One man died and another suffered serious injuries when the car they were travelling in hit a tree early on Tuesday.
The A423 Coventry Road between Southam and Long Itchington was closed after the accident at around 5.25am and a large oil spill on the road cleared.

It took place on top of a hill known as Cement Works Hill.

Two ambulances and two fire crews attended and firefighters used specialist equipment to cut through the wreckage but 29-year-old Coventry man Krzysztof Cetnarski was confirmed dead at the scene. He was the driver of a silver Audi A6.

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “Another man estimated to be in his 20s or 30s was immobilised using a neck collar and spinal board before taken on blue lights to the University Hospital Coventry.”

He suffered serious facial lacerations and a neck injury. A passer-by was also checked over by ambulance staff but did not require hospital treatment.

Police were unable to confirm whether the oil spill had directly contributed to the accident. The road re-opened at around 11.15am on Tuesday.

Anyone who saw what happened should call Sgt Andrew Rawson on 415000.
