Leamington returned to winning ways on Saturday after two Southern League draws.
Former Alvechurch striker Keith Rostill scored twice in a good Division One Midlands win at fellow promotion hopefuls Aylesbury that keeps his new side in touch with leaders Evesham.

James Faulkner and Andy Shed could both have given the Ducks an early lead but Brakes drew first blood on 17 minutes when Rostill turned in an Arron Parkinson free-kick following a foul on Ben Mackey.

Jason Cadden's side doubled their lead eight minutes before the break from another set-piece. Guy Sanders scored straight from the free kick this time, sending the ball through the defensive wall and past keeper Tom Vincent into the bottom left-hand corner.

Within a minute Aylesbury pulled one back when Faulkner ran through unchallenged to beat Morris. He could have equalised just before the interval, but his dipping shot went just over the crossbar.

Brakes rode their luck at the start of the second half, with both James Husband and Mackey clearing off the line. They took another step towards wrapping up the points when Rostill got his second, coolly finishing a move involving Stuart Herlihy and Mackey.

Faulkner also got his second with 15 minutes left, converting a penalty awarded for a foul by Martin Hier. Morris got his hands to the ball, but the shot was too powerful to stop.

Brakes got the reward that their football and endeavour deserved when Mackey scored from the spot after Jamie Towers had been upended by captain Nick Leach who, unlike Hier, escaped a booking.

Morris pulled off a superb save to stop substitute Nathan Graham adding to his 21-goal haul but, from then on, Brakes held out comfortably.

Marcus Jackson and Josh Blake both made welcome returns to the squad after injury. The result lifted the gloom that descended over the New Windmill earlier in the day when officials discovered a break-in at the clubhouse.

The damage to the building will need to be repaired before Saturday's home match against Malvern Town.

Dale Jones and Vijay Sidhu were absent from the squad. Both were loaned to Midland Alliance Barwell, now managed by former Racing Club Warwick boss Marcus Law.

Brakes: Richard Morris, Jamie Towers, Arron Parkinson (capt], Guy Sanders, Martin Hier, Stuart Herlihy (Marcus Jackson 58), Craig Dutton, Ben Mackey, Robbie Beard, Keith Rostill (Josh Blake 72), James Husband (Ryan Parisi 84). Subs not used: Morton Titterton, Liam Reynolds. Att 326.
