Two late goals undid Brakes on Saturday after a brave effort with ten men had looked like earning a Southern League point.
FA Cup stars Chasetown looked likely to end Brakes' 14-match unbeaten league run after scoring twice in the first half and enjoying a numerical advantage when Adam Cooper was dismissed for a second booking.

But Brakes fought back, equalising with 15 minutes left and pressing on for a win that would have kept up the pressure on leaders Evesham.

There was still time for another twist. Chasetown re-took the lead with three minutes left and added a fourth in injury time to leave Jason Cadden's side seven points adrift of the Division One Midlands leaders.

Stand-in captain Richard Morris, deputising for the injured Arron Parkinson, might have done better as Chasetown took the lead on 22 minutes with a wind-assisted Mark Branch free kick that flew into his net.

Brakes had already had chances by that point, notably when Lee Evans saved well from new striker Justin Marsden, signed on loan from AFC Telford United just minutes before the transfer deadline on Saturday.

Phillip Harris sent a shot just over the Brakes crossbar before the visitors doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Dean Perrow took advantage of hesitancy in the Brakes defence, converting a corner from the right at the foot of the post.

The dismissal of Cooper - presumably connected to the reverse fixture when he put Ben Steane out of the game inside five minutes - further deepened Brakes' problems.

Chasetown should have put the result beyond doubt within five minutes of the re-start but Perrow missed an open goal. Ryan Parisi put in a fine saving tackle after Nick Hawkins originally got the better of him.

Brakes started to fight back and they reduced the deficit when substitute Craig Dutton flicked on a Jamie Towers free-kick for Josh Blake to score on his 350th appearance for the club.

It was all square in the 75th minute as James Husband headed home powerfully from a cross by Marsden.

With his side in the ascendancy Cadden decided to go for the win. His looked the most likely to score again until Parisi fouled Lucan Spittle on the edge of the penalty area.

Nothing had come of an almost identical incident a few minutes earlier, but this time Perrow rose high at the near post to head home Hawkins' free-kick.

Cruelly, Danny Smith scored a fourth for Chasetown in stoppage time after Morris hesitated to come for a through ball that split the stretched Brakes defence but was held up by the wind.

Brakes: Richard Morris (capt], Jamie Towers (Marcus Jackson 81), Ryan Parisi, Adam Cooper, Guy Sanders, Stuart Herlihy (Craig Dutton 65), Liam Reynolds (Robbie Beard 85), Ben Mackey, Josh Blake, Justin Marsden, James Husband. Subs not used: Keith Rostill, Andy Harper. Att 860.
