Racing Club Warwick ended their pre-season preparations with an exciting 5-3 win at Nuneaton Griff on Saturday.

The hosts started brightly and took the lead early after a defensive mistake by Racing.

But Jason Powell levelled almost immediately after some neat work by Tim Orford.

Griff hit the post in the second half but it was the visitors who took the lead when Tom Wilmore crossed for Martin Crawford to head in at the back post.

Wilmore added a third and Jay Holtham made it 4-1 with just 15 minutes remaining.

Two goalkeeping errors brought Griff back into the tie but with the score at 4-3 Racing's new bustling centre forward Junior Christie scored a deft flicked-header to wrap up the win.

Manager Bobby Hancocks said he is "quietly confident" going into Racing's first Aspire Midland Alliance game at home to Bridgnorth Town on Saturday (3pm).

He added: "Our fitness levels are pretty good and We are looking in pretty good shape. We are there or there abouts."

* Racing's reserve team drew 4-4 with Coventry Alliance side Alvis at home on Tuesday night.

The team, nine of whom were under 21, and made up of three under-18s players and two of last season's youth side were 3-1 down at half time but lead 4-3 towards the end of the second half.

Their Midlands Alliance Division Two season kicks off on August 16.

The under-13s side is looking for new players for their Coventry Minor League campaign, which starts in September.

They train at Racing's Hampton Road ground on Saturday mornings from 10am. Call 495923.
