Taylor's the top Jet after winning wet final round

Bob Taylor secured the Jets MG series title by winning the final round of the competition at Toft Lakes last week.
The experienced Taylor landed 3lb 4oz in a three-hour contest held in pouring rain to finish just 1oz clear of runner-up Paul Archer - his nearest rival for the series title.

Ben Morris took third place in the low-yielding contest with 2-6.

erall Taylor won the series with eight match points, from Archer’s 11. Andy Curless and Mark Butler shared third spot with 13.

Andy Benwell took the honours in the Saturday open contest at Dog Lane, Napton, taking 79-6 of carp using the pole and paste.

Runner-up Steve Edkins finished with 54-4 and John Ricketts was third on 43-8.

The draw for tomorrow’s match takes place in the car park at 9am. Entry costs £15 all in.

Bill Sprawson’s 40-0 haul was good enough to win the Warwick pensioners’ match at Dog Lane on Tuesday. Runner-up Maurice Hopcraft took 38-0 and Mick Clues was third with 25-8.

The rest of the top six comprised Sam Cleaver 22-12, Albert Wilson 21-8 and Howard West 17-0. Next week’s match is at Bishops Bowl.

Sunday: 1 Paul Newell (Redditch) 179-9, 2 Pete Rice (Garbolino) 161-11, 3 Pete Hancox (Birmingham) 132-7.
