Welcome return to action for Harrison

Sue Harrison made a welcome return to racing after a three-month injury lay-off at the Corby 5 mile road race.

Harrison, who was forced to pull out of the World 100k Championships, with a torn calf muscle, was joined at the fourth race of East Midlands Grand Prix series by Leamington C&AC team-mate Dave Potter.

And, it was Potter who took the club honours, coming 44th overall in 31min 47sec to claim first in the M55 age group.

Harrison was just eight seconds behind him, finishing third female and taking the masters’ prize.

It represented the end of a long road back to competitive action for Warwick Sports-backed Harrison, who admitted Corby did not provide an easy re-introduction.

“It was the first time I’d run the course,” said Harrison. “It was incredibly hilly and if I’d have known that beforehand I might have chosen a flatter course for my first race back.

“However, it’s a great relief just to be back racing.

“While I’m still a long way from race fitness, I am looking forward to the challenges ahead.”
