Each month, we celebrate the deeds of our cricketers, with the winner being presented with a box of six new cricket balls for their club, provided by Blythe Liggins.

Wootton skipper Couchman, from Leamington, scored 118 against Kineton in Division One of the Cotswold Hills League, in a match which was ultimately abandoned due to rain after the hosts had racked up a club record 370 for seven.

It was a special knock for Couchman, as it was his first century since back surgery almost two years ago.

The 45-year-old, who joined the club aged 14, went under the knife to repair a multiple broken facet joint in June 2014 and now has titanium rods in his lower back.

After a naturally slow return to full playing duties, he is now back leading the club’s first team, which is unbeaten since July last year.

He said: “I’m in my 31st season for Leek Wootton and thoroughly enjoy playing for the club.

“The 118 I scored against Kineton was my first ton since returning from injury.

“I think I was out in about the 27th over and it was an enjoyable innings.

“It’s certainly a nice surprise to have won this competition and I’m sure the club will put the new balls to good use.”
