Further goals from Jack Taylor (2), Lewis Currell and Ryan Billington completed an 8-2 win over Bulkington, with only the late sending off of Billington for handling on the line souring an excellent opening afternoon’s work for the title hopefuls.

“We dominated from the minute we scored the first,” said Shearsby, who took over in the summer.

“It was quite comfortable and good to blow the cobwebs away.

“Ryan Billington was outstanding until the sending-off.

“It was a bit of a shame but the referee had to apply the rules.”

Town followed up with a 3-0 win over Kenilworth Wardens in the Stan Oulds Cup on Tuesday night.

Ross Briscoe scored twice, with Taylor also on target.

And Shearsby, who missed the game due to a family break in Somerset, said being away from his side had made him realise just how much he was enjoying being back in a managerial role.

“I’m loving it and I was gutted to miss out on Tuesday night.

“I was even contemplating driving back up for the game.

“I was on the phone to Gilf (Alan Guilford) until I was sure we were going to win the match.”

Town are back in league action tomorrow when they entertain Jaguar-Daimler.
