Sporting went into the game on the back of a 10-0 mauling of Southam but were made to work hard for the three points by an impressive home side.

The only goal of the first half came courtesy of a Mark Bellingham penalty, his 37th goal of the season.

The visitors doubled their lead against the run of play after the interval through Billy Russell but were then reduced to ten men when Chris Duggan was sent off for a two-footed lunge.

Racers pulled a goal back through Jamie Corrigan but despite having the better of the closing stages they were unable to fashion an equaliser.

Racing Club’s youth team shrugged off the loss of two players in the warm-up to beat Banbury United 7-1 and maintain their healthy advantage at the top of the Midland Floodlit Youth League.

Racers took the lead in the 12th minute when Alex Litwinko slalomed past three players and coolly slotted his shot into the corner.

Further goals followed from Troy Stephens and Declan Sullivan before Harry Jervis saw his spot-kick saved after Stephens was brought down.

An audacious lob from Sullivan shortly after half-time made it 4-0 before Banbury pulled a goal back.

Stephens was making a real nuisance of himself and rounded the keeper to slot home his second before completing his hat-trick.

Ten minutes from time Jervis thundered in a powerful drive to make it seven.
