Leamington Hibs grateful for late Lindley strike

Hibs came flying out of the blocks and should have taken the lead as early as the fifth minute but Calum Yeates shot straight at the keeper when clean through.

Mike Yeates then had a header well saved at the far post before Yeates blazed over from six yards after excellent link-up play.

Hibs continued to make all the running and Ricky Lee Moore curled in a superb cross that was just missed by Matty Trinder at the far post.

Hibs secured the win ten minutes from time after great work from Jon Byrne who drove into the box and then picked out Scott Lindley who tapped home from close range.

Player-coach Rich Kay said the three points was the most important thing but felt the scoreline did not reflect his side’s superiority.

“First half the lads were superb - it was as well as we have played all season,” said Kay.

“Our football on a difficult, bobbly pitch was excellent and we carved them open time after time.

“Again our finishing has let us down as it again should have been dead and buried at half-time but the lads kept going and got the goal their performance deserved.”

Hibs visit championship favourites Badsey tomorrow and Kay sees no reason they cannot continue their winning streak.

“We go to Badsey full of confidence,” he added. “They are riding high but are now starting to look over their shoulder.

“We have beaten them once already so we will go there and have a right go.”
