Brakes survive a scare to make comfortable progress into the next round

Stuart Pierpoint headed wide from a corner as Leamington looked to cement their advantage but they were stunned when Remy Gordon burst down the left and fired in a pinpoint delivery which was powered home by the unmarked Nathan Stone.

Danny Newton thumped a header against the Wroxham bar as Brakes looked to regain their rhythm while Neil Collett comfortably held a long range free-kick from Danny Self.

But the Yachtsmen could have gone in front moments before half-time when Gordon provided another quality ball into the danger area only for Christy Finch to miscue his shot right in front of goal.

Leamington regrouped and were back in front within six minutes of a break that saw Lee Chilton replace Richard Batchelor.

He lashed a shot just over the bar after Newton’s low drive had been pushed round the post by Sutton.

The left-sided midfielder, whose return to fitness has provided a timely boost, then fired a cross to the far post where Matt Dodd was steaming in to head high into the net.

The goal seemed to remove a weight from the players’ shoulders and they began to perform as they had in the early stages of the game.

Newton headed over from another Chilton cross before the substitute was involved again, setting up Jordan Goddard for a ball into the box that ricocheted nicely for Jamie Tank to crash his first goal for the club into the roof of the net.

Dodd then supplied Newton with the ammunition from the right wing but the striker took a touch and fired over the bar.

It was another Chilton delivery from the left after a pleasing spell of neat possession football from Brakes that saw Newton grab the goal his efforts deserved, rising to power a header back across goal past Sutton to complete the scoring and ensure that a potential banana skin had been avoided.
