We have started as we mean to go on - Holleran

Leamington climbed to second in the table on the back of a 2-1 win over Bideford on Saturday and now sit just a point behind early-season pacesetters Chippenham.

Confidence is high following four wins from the first five but Holleran says that will not give way to complacency.

“We all spoke of getting off to a good start. But that’s all it is. There’s still mountains of work to do - there are 41 games left.

“But it gives us a bit of a lift and a bit of confidence.”

Brakes were forced to fight back from conceding a goal inside the opening five minutes at home to Bideford, with Tony Breeden allowing a speculative free-kick to creep in at his near post.

However, Holleran was pleased with his side’s response and says there is more to come.

“It’s the worst possible start. There was an element of surprise in that we probably expected them to go to the far post.

“On another day Tony would have tipped it over but it happens.

“But against a different kind of team with different tactics, we played with patience and with control and we wore them down.

“Again we scored some very good goals.

“The major disappointment is not being more clinical around the box.

“At 2-1, you’re always keen to put a bit a bit of daylight between you and your opponents and we need to be more ruthless.”

The games continue to come thick and fast, with tomorrow’s trip to Biggleswade being followed by a home clash with Bedworth on Monday (3pm).

Joe Magunda and Jack Edwards are both suspended tomorrow after sending-offs atSt Neots, but Edwards will return for the clash with Bedworth.
