Leamington C&AC have earned promotion after finishing a superb second overall in Midland League Division Four.

C&AC came third in the final match of the four-meeting series in Solihull, with Callum Hanlon a major contributor.

Hanlon won the men’s A 800m in a time of 1min 57.7sec, with Chris Melbourne following suit by claiming the B race in 2:03.6.

“I was quite chuffed with that performance,” admitted Hanlon, who then went on to compete in the 110m hurdles, 3,000m steeplechase, hammer and 4 x 400m relay.

Strong sprinting performances came from Makun Madar and Morgan Reeves, who were fourth and fifth, respectively, while appearances from the Sinnott family - Jim, Callum, Rory and Joel - provided invaluable points.

Rory Sinnott went close to a personal best in the pole vault, clearing 3.20m to win the event and backed it up with victory in the high jump.

James Harris finished runner up in the 400m hurdles in 59.4 seconds while Phil Gould shone in the distance events.

Kieran Chahal ran a superb 3,000m to finish third with Charlie Barkworth vaulting 2.60m for first in the B string and clearing 1.60m for third in the high jump.

In the women’s events, Sara Wills (nee McGreavy) and Stephanie Childs finished second and seventh, respectively, in the 400m hurdles, both achieving season’s bests.

Wills also made her debut in the pole vault, achieving a best of 2.10m to finish third.

Danielle Georgiou and Mary Donaldson completed the quadrant of throwing events, with Donaldson also running the 100m, 100m hurdles and 4x400m relay where the team finished third after a late surge from Rebecca Lord.

Lord also competed in the 400m, finishing third in 61.2.

Emma Mathews, Angela Chahal and Issy Davies ran out of their comfort zones to gain useful points in the distance races, while Shelley Went was second in the 200m and third in the 100m.

Leamington C&AC meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 6.30pm and newcomers are very welcome.
