Warwickshire’s under-15 team picked up three wins and a defeat from the final weekend of county matches in Southampton.
In the not so distant past Warwickshire were struggling to field two girls at county level and rarely recorded wins when they did so it was particularly gratifying to note that the girls claimed 12 of the 14 points available to them (plus two concessions).
Their first opponents were Sussex 3 whom they defeated 9-1.
Sam Cafearo (Rugby), Lisa Rinnhofer (Colebridge) Adam Cofler, Lewis Singleton (both Lillington Free Church) and all won twice while a nervous Katie Singleton (Lillington Free Church), making her county debut, lost to Joelle Bennett but bounced back in great style to beat Lisbet Dubois.
Wiltshire could only field one girl and so conceded two points as Warwickshire triumphed 9-1 with Cofler and Lewis Singleton winning twice, Cafearo once and Lisa Rinnhofer and Jenny Singleton (Free Church) taking their single.
Sussex 2 proved the stiffest opposition, with Warwickshire losing 6-4. Rinnhofer won twice and Cofler once, with Katie Singleton enjoying an excellent victory over Amelia Long.
The final match was against Dorset whose Jamie Blair won both singles against Cofler and Singleton but Cafearo, Rinnhofer and Jenny Singleton all recorded maximums for an 8-2 triumph.
An exciting derby took place at league headquarters where Leamington B opposed Leamington A in the Midland League Veterans Division One B.
Leamington A, who had won their previous two matches, remained on course for the title with a narrow 6-4 success over their stablemates.
Mark Jackson (St George’s) claimed his three and the doubles with County Council’s Simon Griew, who won twice to clinch the spoils.
The WCC trio of Phil Paine (2) Martin Hunter (1) and Murray Stevenson (1) provided stern resistance.
