Fenemore resignation rocks Racing Club
Crisis-club Racing Club Warwick were thrown into further turmoil this week with the resignation of joint manager Mark Fenemore.
Having taken over from Bobby Hancocks in the early part of the year, Fenemore has overseen the darkest period in Racing Club's history with only the intervention of Warwick District Council last season saving the debt-ridden club from extinction and allowing them to fulfil their fixtures.
Relegation to the Midland Combination duly followed, but there was hope of a brighter future on the horizon with three prospective new owners bidding for the lease of the club's Townsend Meadow ground.
However, the financial constraints affecting the club finally got too much for Fenemore on Monday and he tended his resignation to club officials by email.
It is believed matters came to a head after the weekend clash with Brocton - which Racing lost 4-0 - with the club unable to find the 200 to pay the squad their travel expenses.
"I was disgusted with what went on at the weekend," said Fenemore.
"(joint manager] Martyn Walker told the players on Friday night that the club couldn't afford to pay them the money.
"They all turned up on the Saturday but they didn't look interested.
"I've effectively been the chairman, secretary and ball boy - producing the programme, updating the website, dealing with paperwork, sweeping the dressing rooms, marking the technical areas, providing the match balls and collecting the lost ones - and I was sat at home thinking 'was it worth it?'.
"It was a tough decision, but I've had enough. It's a big weight off my mind."
Fenemore, who admitted that uncertainty over the likely new owners of the club was also a factor in his decision to quit, says that he will take his time before accepting any new role.
"The same day I handed my resignation in I had interest from a Midland Combination side.
"But I'm going to sit and do nothing for a couple of months.
"I know that next time I want to be able to concentrate on just the football side of things.
"It might even be in ladies' football. They say that's going to be the next big thing."
Fenemore left with a word of praise for Racing Club's supporters: "I want to thank all the supporters for their support and wish them well. They're a great bunch."
Officials at Racing Club were reluctant to comment on Fenemore's departure, having only read his email on Wednesday afternoon.
